Differences Between Invisible Window Grill and Mesh Grill Malaysia

Nowadays, securing your house with safety grills has become a necessity as it provides security and protection to your household. Available in several forms such as invisible window grill, mesh grill, etc., it can be difficult to determine which of these is suitable for your home.

If you find yourself in a dilemma over which type of grill you want and need to install, fear not as we are here to help by filling you in with all the details you need to know about invisible window grill and mesh grill in Malaysia.

In this article, we will share about invisible window grill and mesh grill in Malaysia, their features, and the differences between the two safety grills.

What are mesh grills?

Also known as a mesh screen, a mesh grill is constructed by weaving together different connected strands of materials or fibres to form a barrier that can prevent insects from entering your property while maintaining the airflow in your house.

However, mesh grills are prone to rust and may need replacing every so often, especially when they are installed in humid areas. Alternatively, you can opt for stainless steel mesh grills because they do not rust easily and provide much more protection as they cannot be cut easily with a knife.

That said, mesh grill in Malaysia is considered as state-of-the-art barrier as it provides you with a clear view, regulates airflow, and offers protection while giving your home a modern aesthetic look. On top of that, they can be installed on your doors and windows.

What are invisible window grills?

Unlike mesh grill in Malaysia, invisible window grills are thin metal cables installed at a certain distance (usually 2 to 3 inches apart) to create a safety barrier of safety that prevents unwanted mishaps like accidental falls while providing your household with unobstructed views of your surroundings.

While these grills may appear susceptible to breakage, each cable can withstand a maximum tension of 250kg. Moreover, the invisible grill can be installed either horizontally or vertically based on your safety needs and preferences.

More importantly, each metal cable of invisible window grills are made from premium 316L stainless steel wires, which makes it highly resistant to rust and chemical corrosion. And for this reason, invisible grills can last for over 15 years with minimal maintenance.

Invisible Window Grill vs Mesh Grill

Each of these grills offers varying features and benefits and hence, can be difficult for you to decide which one to install. Here are some of the features you should consider when making your decision:

a)  Usage

Both grills offer protection and security in varying ways but differ in terms of application. For instance, a mesh grill is more suited for installation on landed properties because the mesh screen can keep insects out of your home while maintaining airflow.

Invisible window grill, on the other hand, is more suited for high-rise buildings as they are invisible in nature. Once they are installed, you can hardly see them from afar. Besides, it offers no obstruction which means you can have the clearest view of your surroundings.

b)  Cost

High-end security doors or windows may look attractive and often seem like the best option for your home but if you’re looking for an option within your budget, mesh grills or invisible window grills may be able to accommodate it. Take mesh grills as examples. They typically cost more as the screen needs to be custom-made due to the different weaving pattern.

Meanwhile, the cost of installing invisible window grills is more affordable as the design is very straightforward and there’s no need to customize the metal cables. Besides, you can choose from a range of materials like stainless steel to match the installation cost.

c)  Style

Choosing your grill based on this feature can be tricky but it depends on your needs and preference. Mesh grill, for instance, has a variety of weaving patterns to choose from, which means you get to decide on the aesthetic of your home security.

Invisible window grills, on the other hand, can only be installed in two orientations – horizontal and vertical. However, this doesn’t mean that they offer less aesthetic to your home because they can be installed in your house as a design feature.

Regardless of which type of safety grill you choose to install, always bear in the mind the reason you are installing a safety grill as well as your home location to ensure that you make the best choice.

Tips on Choosing Suitable Invisible Safety Grill for Your Home

Are you looking to secure your home with an invisible grille but you’re wondering how safe is it? Well, you’ve come to the right place because we’ve got all the things you should know about invisible grille and how you can choose a suitable one for your home. KLIG is one of invisible safety grill supplier will shared everything that you should know about invisible grille in this article.

How safe is invisible grille?

Invisible grille are thin metal cables installed on balconies, windows, or any other areas, to create a barrier of safety to prevent falls while still providing homeowners with unobstructed scenic views.

While the metal cables may appear susceptible to breakage, each cable can withstand a maximum tension of 250kg. If all the cables added up together, they are capable to support forces up to few tonnes! During the installation, the invisible safety grill supplier will mount each metal cable on brackets, either horizontally or vertically, depending on your needs and preferences.

Every metal cable is installed 2 inches (5.08cm) apart to prevent your toddler or pet from being able to squeeze through the cables.

That said, each metal cable of the invisible grille is made from premium 316L stainless steel wires, which makes it highly resistant to rusting, and chemical corrosion. Invisible safety grill can last for more than 15 years with minimal maintenance. This will ensure the invisible grille can safeguard your family without degrading over time.

How can I choose a suitable invisible safety grill for my home?

So, you’ve just learned how safe an invisible grille can be and decided to install one for your home. But you’re wondering how to choose a suitable one because there’s a plethora of designs and types of cables to choose from. Here’s our take on this:

  • Type of metal cable

There are many types of metal cable available in the market. It’s crucial that you do your research on this because some invisible safety grill suppliers may sell iron cables, which isn’t a good choice for your invisible grille as it’ll rust over time.

As most invisible grilles are installed mainly at the balcony, they’re constantly exposed to UV rays and/or chemical rain. Thus, you’ll want a type of metal cable that’s resistant to corrosion, chemical, and rust like stainless steel. At KLIG, we use stainless steel due to its anti-rust property to ensure that the cable can last long without affecting the cable’s strength.

  • Quality of metal cable

Every grade of stainless steel contains a mix of iron and chromium at different levels. The exact mix and other additions are the ones that make the difference between grades of stainless steel. At KLIG, we use 316L stainless steel while most of our competitors use grade 304 or 303 stainless steel.

This is because grade 316L stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance to chlorides and acids. Known as marine-grade stainless steel, it’s often used for the cabling on ship decks because it can withstand the corrosive environment at sea. Meanwhile, grade 304 stainless steel is more suitable for indoor use as it offers standard corrosion resistance, formability, strength, and maintenance.

  • Coating of metal cable

There are several reasons for coating the metal cables of an invisible grille. The first reason is to prevent skin injuries when your children slide their hands down the cable. Secondly, it’s to lengthen the lifespan of your invisible grille.

At KLIG, we offer two types of coating – Nylon or NanoTetra. Nylon coating is generally more suitable for indoor use because the coating is less resistant to UV rays. If you’re installing an invisible safety grill at the balcony, we suggest that you opt for the NanoTetra coating as it’s resistant to UV rays and chemical corrosion, even after 15 years.

When choosing a suitable invisible grille for your home, consider the above as you’ll be investing in the safety of your family. Looking to install an invisible grille at your place? Things You Should Know Before Safety Grill Installation

Regardless of the reason, a self-installation of the safety grille is not recommended, especially when it involves the balcony. That’s because it can be a dangerous installation that requires a prior installation setup and safety experience – which only professional installers are equipped with.

Moving forward, we discuss the process of a safety grill installation and the factors to consider before installing a safety grille.

Let’s say I am interested to install, where do I start?

Let’s say you want to install a safety grille on your balcony. The installation process will usually begin with your quest for a safety grille supplier like KLIG Safety Grille. If you have the measurements of your balcony, you can convey them to us. Also, it’d be better if you can provide your floor plan as that will allow us to arrange a free site visitation to determine the installation feasibility of your safety grille.

Next, they will provide a quotation based on the measurements obtained, which will be valid for 14 days. Once you approve the quotation, you’ll be required to deposit 40 percent of the total invoice/quotation amount prior to your installation date. After that, we will send our technicians to your house for the installation, during which they’ll be required to wear professional harness and safety equipment.

If you choose to install an invisible grille on your balcony and windows, note that it may take a longer time to complete all installation. Because this installation involves plenty of metal cables and requires precision in strapping the cables at an equal distance of 2 inches. After which, your choice of coating will be applied to each metal cable.

What are the factors to consider before safety grill installation?

If you have yet to install a safety grille for your home, the following are some factors to consider to avoid irreparable damages to your home.

1)  Materials to be used

Not all safety grilles are created equal. While iron is the most common material used to create safety grilles, stainless steel grilles are more resistant to rust and chemical corrosion. This makes them ideal for both indoor and outdoor like the balcony.

2)  Security level

Different types of safety grilles offer varying levels of security. Some suppliers provide 3 inches or 4 inches gap between the cables. The wider the gap, the less safe it’ll be for your children or pets to poke their head out the grille. Make sure to check how wide the gaps are to prevent any untoward mishap.

3)  Design option

Most safety grilles are customizable, including invisible grille. They’re typically mounted on brackets, either horizontally or vertically depending on the feasibility of installation as different balcony design/size may require specific orientation of installation (horizontal/vertical). If you want a mix of both, you can discuss with the safety grille supplier for the best design option for your home.

4)  Legal regulations

According to the Strata Management Act 2013, Section 22, Part 3, proprietors (homeowners) of every condominium or apartment are allowed to install safety grille for protection. This means you can worry less about the management/developer finding fault with you. However, do note that you can only get it installed within your house and up to your balcony. Beyond that, you’ll be breaching the act.

Once you’ve considered these factors before a safety grill installation, you can safely look for safety grille suppliers like KLIG Safety Grille to help with the safety grill installation.

Providing mainly invisible safety grill installation, KLIG Safety Grille sends our technicians to attend safety training annually so that they’re well-equipped with safety knowledge to ensure their safety while at work. We also make sure that they wear imported professional harness and safety equipment while performing the installation work.

On top of that, our product material and structure are also specially designed to meet professional safety level. The Importance of Balcony Invisible Grille

In this article, we are going to discuss the importance of balcony invisible grille and the reasons of installing invisible balcony grill. Let’s start, shall we? Living in a high-rise building comes with plenty of perks such as unobstructed scenic views, variety of amenities, and you’re literally living in your own little bubble, separated from the rest of the world.

However, living in a high-rise also has its cons like getting to and from your unit to your car can be time-consuming. Not only that, but safety risks can also be your greatest concern if you have young children and/or pets.

In May 2020, a toddler fell to her death from the 12th floor of a condominium’s balcony after being left at home, in an unlocked room with a younger sibling. The autopsy revealed that her death was caused by severe injuries to the head and skull as well as various external and internal injuries after falling from a great height.

There have been many more similar unfortunate cases like this for the past 5 years in Malaysia and other countries throughout the world. There are more and more condominiums or high buildings that are built over the recent years especially in capital cities due to lack of development areas or rising cost of lands.

There are few instances when we visited the clients’ home to get the measurement for the balcony safety grille.

There was one time a mother told us, when we visited her apartment. She told us when she was just away in the kitchen for a minute or two, she was shocked to see her 3 years old daughter were climbing the fence with almost half of the body leaning over the top of the balcony railing.

We noticed that children tend to lean over the balcony out of curiosity. Some exceptionally smart and creative children, that we heard of, even move their toys or plastic furniture and formed ‘stairs’ that they could climb up the balcony.

Imagine the horror if something bad had happened. With our invisible safety grille, you can minimize the safety risks as well as prevent mishaps from happening. In this article, we discuss the importance of installing invisible balcony grill.
